Updated requirements for importing pets abroad have been changed for Ukrainians

The updated rules for importing pets abroad for Ukrainian citizens came into force on 1 December, especially for those planning to visit Moldova. These changes relate to the conditions and requirements that must be met when travelling with your beloved pets.

According to a post by the Main Department of the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection in Odesa Oblast on its Facebook page, the simplified conditions are now cancelled, as defined by the new requirements for importing animals into Moldova.

The updated rules for the export of animals from Ukraine include the following requirements:

Identification of the animal with a microchip and rabies vaccination: It is now necessary to identify pets with a microchip and vaccinate them against rabies with an active vaccine.

A serological titer for rabies and a three-month waiting period: After vaccination, a blood test is required to determine the serological titer for rabies. At least three months must elapse between the dates of the blood test and the issuance of the international certificate.

International health certificate: An international health certificate is required to export animals abroad. This certificate is issued on the basis of a veterinary certificate.

In addition, in order to obtain an international health certificate, citizens can apply to the border inspection control departments of the State Border Control Department of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection.
