Citizenship of Ukraine is a close legal connection between the natural person and Ukraine, which is expressed in the reciprocal rights and duties.
If a person was in citizenship of Ukraine earlier, and now wants to acquire the citizenship of Ukraine again, according to its petition, there is an opportunity to pass through the procedure of restoration in citizenship of Ukraine. If a person, stopped the citizenship of Ukraine, and did not get the citizenship (nationality) of other state and in connection with that, received the status of a stateless person, this person can submit the application for restoration in citizenship of Ukraine and can be registered as a citizen of Ukraine irrespective of the place of residence (whether he lives permanently in Ukraine or abroad). If after the termination of citizenship of Ukraine, the person acquires a foreign citizenship (or nationality), it can be restored in citizenship of Ukraine on condition of continuous residence in the territory of Ukraine, and it needs to stop foreign citizenship, whereupon the person is registered as a citizen of Ukraine. If a foreigner is in citizenship (nationality) of several states, he has to submit the obligation about the termination of citizenship of all these states. The foreigner, to whom the status of the refugee in Ukraine or a shelter in Ukraine is provided, instead of the obligation to stop foreign citizenship, submits the declaration on refusal from foreign citizenship of a person, to whom the status of the refugee in Ukraine or a shelter in Ukraine is provided. Foreigner, who submitted the obligation about the termination of foreign citizenship, has to file the document about it to bodies of migration service of Ukraine, during two years from the moment of registration as a citizen of Ukraine. If the foreigner, having all bases provided by the legislation of this state, for obtaining such document, owing to circumstances cannot receive it, he submits the declaration on refusal of foreign citizenship. Submission of the obligation about the termination of foreign citizenship is not required from citizens (subjects) of states, which legislation provides the automatic termination of person citizenship (nationality) of these states along with acquisition of citizenship of other state, including if the international agreements of Ukraine with other states, which citizens are foreigners, provide the termination by persons of nationality of these states along with acquisition of citizenship of Ukraine, and also from stateless persons and persons, to whom the status of the refugee in Ukraine or a shelter in Ukraine is provided. Date of acquisition of citizenship of Ukraine is the date of registration of acquisition by the person of citizenship of Ukraine. In addition, persons, who acquired citizenship of Ukraine and submitted the declaration on refusal of foreign nationality, undertake to return the passport of the foreign state in authorized bodies of this state. Such requirement does not extend on persons, to whom the status of the refugee in Ukraine or a shelter in Ukraine is provided.
For restoration in citizenship of Ukraine, it is necessary to gather all necessary documents, to address to territorial division of State Migration Service of Ukraine in the place of residence, for filing of application and documents. As a result of procedure of restoration in citizenship of Ukraine, You receive the certificate of registration You as a citizen of Ukraine. Based on this certificate, the passport of the citizen of Ukraine is processed

In citizenship of Ukraine are not accepted persons, which:
1 committed a crime against humanity or effected genocide;
2 are condemned in Ukraine to imprisonment for commission of heavy or especially serious crime (before repayment or removal of a criminal record) taking into account threat level for national security of the state;
3 committed in the territory of other state actions, which are recognized by the legislation of Ukraine heavy or especially serious crime.
Persons, who lost citizenship of Ukraine in connection with the introduction in it as a result of deception, conscious submission of in veracious data or false documents, are not renew in citizenship of Ukraine.
